For years there have been several big names in photography; Nikon, Olympus, Kodak and Canon are all examples that come to mind. However, with the advent of more digital technologies, it was only a matter of time before nearly all photography gear would be in one digital format or another. All of the larger companies have seen the shift from film to digital coming and have adjusted for it. Many of them boast full lines of digital photography supplies including cameras that produce amazing photographs while still maintaining, at least a few, film cameras as well.
Canon has adapted exceptionally well and boasts an array of digital cameras that have come into their own in the private as well as the professional markets because of the varied technologies and price points that are available. These cameras are at the cutting edge of technologies that can be put in digital cameras and some of the newer models can even produce high definition video along with extremely crisp and clean pictures. However, there are some downsides to the technologies of digital photography and none are more glaring than the fact that it is going to cost exponentially more to advance through the photography world if one enters in using digital equipment.
Some opponents to digital photography, often referred to as purists, claim that the digital aspects take away from the skill needed to actually take a photograph. This is simply not true. Even though there are some image stabilization technologies that are employed in almost all digital cameras, there are many options, especially on professional cameras, that can make the digital experience more complicated than its film counterpart. Even though adaptation to technologies is a natural part of modern life, there is something that is missing when you make the move to digital photography. For many people, it will leave them feeling somewhat hollow about their art form.
